The Fylde Coast Model Flying Association has been flying from the Fylde coast for the last 45 years. Our current site is on the banks of the river Wyre just outside Fleetwood, Lancashire. Originally flying from a small plot next to the large cooling towers of Fleetwood power station. In the early 1980’s the cooling towers were demolished when the power station was closed down just leaving one building until the development of Fleetwood Marsh Nature Park started in 2003.
In June 2005 the Fleetwood Marsh Nature Reserve and in turn our new flying site was opened by Joan Humble, MP for Fleetwood and Blackpool North, following three years of inactivity whilst our site was moved to make way for the nature park which now is to the north and west of our field. We are extremely fortunate in that we have unrestricted flying times at the site so are able to fly seven days a week.
Our members fly RC models of all types including fixed wing, helicopter and some control line. An increasing number of models turning up at the site are now electric. Our members range from BMFA examiners, BMFA and club instructors to novices and all members are always willing to share their experiences with new members. FCMFA is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA).
If you are interested in the hobby do take the time to pop down to the site for a chat. Members are usually there most afternoons and weekends, weather permitting and in the evenings in the summer months.
